Frequently Asked Questions about Solar

  • Can I store and use excess energy produced by my panels?

Excess energy produced by your solar panels during the day is sent to the utility grid. In most utilities, you receive a credit for that excess energy. When the sun goes down at the end of the day, you purchase power from the utility grid. You have the ability to add batteries for storage, though. Ask your Energy Advisor to learn more.

  • Who is responsible for taking of the solar equipment?

Each Cheetah Solar customer receives a 25-year manufacturer warranty. This warranty will cover issues related to the specific parts of the sytem itself. Routine maintenance, such as cleaning or snow removal, is the responsibility of the homeowner.

  • What happens at the end of the solar agreement?

You have several different options. You can own the equipment, have it removed at no cost to you (certain products only) or renew with a lease option.

  • Can I “Live off the Grid?”

Unless your closest neighbor is miles and miles away, it probably isn’t an option for most homeowners. Your home and solar project will always be connected to the electrical grid.

  • How much money will I save by switching to solar power?

Savings will solar is a combination of the utility you live in, the way you consume energy and the efficiency of your home. When you meet with a Cheetah Solar Energy Advisor, they will make recommendations and educate you on how to maximize your savings. Most of our homeowners see savings of 20-30%.

  • Will I have one power bill after going solar?

Since you are connected to the grid, you will always receive a bill from your utility company. You will also receive a bill for the cost of your solar project. The total cost of those two combined will be less than what you currently pay for power.

  • What happens if the power goes out?

Because these systems are grid-tied, your power will also go out. For the safety of those making repairs to the grid, we do not want power generated by solar panels to be send to the grid.

  • What happens in bad weather?

Solar panels will still produce energy on a cloudy or foggy day. Rain and snow may affect production for your system.

  • Can I add more panels to my system at a later time?

Depending on the type of product you choose, it is possible. Provided you have enough roof space, contact a Cheetah Solar Energy Advisor to explain the process to you.

  • What happens to my solar panels if I move?

You have options! You can choose to pay off the system prior to selling or you can easily transfer it to the new homeowner.

  • What is the process for going solar?

We’re glad you asked! One of our Energy Advisors will visit your home to educate you on how solar works with your utility. They provide several different options to help you slash your power bill by going solar for $0 out of pocket.

  • How do I know if going solar is right for me and my family?

If you enjoy saving money, and not being subject to unpredicatable bills and rates from your utility - solar is right for you. You can help Mother Nature at the same time!

  • How does net metering work?

Each utility has specific net metering policies. Broadly speaking, the concept of net metering is simple. Once your system is operating, you can use power in your home from the panels in real time. If your panels are pro- ducing more power than you are using, the excess power is sent back to the grid. You are credited for that energy. You can then purchase power from the utility when the sun has set and your panels aren’t producing energy.

  • How long will my installation take?

Most solar installations takes less than one day. If it’s a particularly large system, we will require two days. We take care of all permitting and guide you through the entire process.
